Many of us wish to donate to charity and many of us do on a very regular basis. The difficulty some of us face is that we always wish we could be doing more.

By introducing this range of charity credit cards we hope we are fusing the demands of today's society with the means by which to fulfill them.

There are plenty of other non charitable credit cards available so by having and using a charity credit card you are making the choice to perhaps forfeit certain credit card offers such as travel reward points or discounts at participating stores in place of providing a little extra assistance to the charity of your choice.

About Charity Credit Cards

If you have a favourite charity you like to support, or if you’d like to do more to support charity but can’t afford to make regular donations, a charity credit card makes things easy. When you have a charity credit card, a small percentage of each purchase you make with the card is donated to the charity the card is affiliated with. Charity credit cards are steadily increasing in popularity in the UK, and several million pounds are donated to a wide variety of charities every year by the holders of these cards.

Charity credit cards work in exactly the same way as any other credit card, with all of the same features and benefits. And of course the most important point is that you donate to your favourite charity every time you use it—around 0.25% of the value of every purchase is donated by the bank in your name. Some banks also donate the first time you use the card, and for every year that you continue to use it. Note that while you donate to charity each time you make a purchase, no donation is made for “cash transactions” such as withdrawing cash from an ATM or buying foreign currencies. It’s a good idea to avoid withdrawing cash for another reason—these cash transactions typically incur an extra fee over and above the interest you pay on your outstanding monthly balance.

Since charity credit cards work just the same as traditional credit cards, there are factors you should consider when you’re selecting a charity credit card, in addition to deciding which charity you want to support.

• What is the interest rate on the card? Compare the annual percentage rates on the cards you’re considering.
• Is there an annual fee? Some charity credit cards charge an annual fee which is payable regardless of how much you spend.
• Can you get a better deal if you are switching from a current credit card to a charity credit card? Some credit cards offer a lower annual percentage rate if you transfer the balance of your current card to the new one.
• Platinum or classic card? Platinum cards have extra benefits for cardholders, but they have a minimum income requirement. You also need to have a good credit rating to be eligible for a platinum card.

As with any other credit card, there are some things to watch out for when you use a charity credit card.

First of all, it’s important to pay your balance in full every month to avoid paying interest on your purchases. This saves you money, and also ensures that you really are donating money with the purchases you make, rather than paying for them with the interest you pay.

The second thing to be aware of is the way balance transferring operates. While you can often get a lower annual percentage rate by transferring your credit card balance to a charity card, you should note that you won’t earn money for your charity on the balance you transfer. Additionally, it’s best to pay your transferred balance before making new purchases on the card, because you’ll usually be charged interest on new purchases even if you’re not charged interest on the balance you transfer. This means that you won’t be donating to your charity in the meantime.

No matter how you choose to use a charity credit card, they are a simple and easy way of donating. However as with all cards, you should carefully compare charity credit cards before applying for one, and make sure you thoroughly understand the features of the card.
